THE Namibia Traffic Information System (NaTIS) continues to expand its footprint. The inauguration on Monday of a NaTIS office at Helao Nafidi town on the Namibia-Angola border is the latest addition to the chain.
Helao Nafidi also got its own vehicle licence mark which is N–NH.
A month ago, transport minister John Mutorwa opened the Okahao NaTIS office.
The NATIS expansion is meant to ensure that relevant services are brought closer to the people.
Mutorwa stated that as per the decentralization policy of the government and specific with the aim of bringing services closer to the communities in the regions, the ministry and Road Authority continues to pursue the objective of inclusiveness.
“The people of Helao Nafidi and surrounding areas will no longer be required to travel to Eenhana, Ondangwa or Oshakati to access NaTIS services,” he said.
He added that the town council demonstrated that it has the interest of the community at heart and did not delay to provide the facility to serve its community.
Further, he indicated that the centre will cater for registration and licensing of vehicles, annual renewal of vehicle licences, renewal of driving licences and testing and issuing of learners’ licences.
According to him, the ultimate aim is to have fledged NaTIS facilities countrywide.
Mutorwa reassured the people that the ministry, with the implementing agency and the RA, will continue to construct new vehicle and driving testing centres as well as upgrade existing centre to ensure effective and efficient service delivery in all corners of the country.
Town Mayor Darius Shaalukeni said the establishment of NaTIS offices in the town form part of decentralization policy implemented by the ministry in its efforts to provide services at the grassroots level that enhance the effectiveness and impact of its operation.
He added that this will assist the residents who have been travelling long distances to different towns for various NaTIS services to acquire NaTIS in the town as of Monday.
Pupkewitz Volkswagen Ongwediva handed over the official vehicle to Helao Nafidi, N 1 HN.
Isai Shigwedha, Dealer Principal at Pupkewitz Volkswagen Ongwediva, indicated that it was a pleasure to be part of the community, and looking forward to building a fruitful relationship with the council and the town as a whole.
